East Asia, Japan, Meiji period, ca. 1868 to 1912 CE. A silver brooch/pin featuring five 94.84% silver articulated koi fish with enamel eyes of red and green hues. In Japanese the word "koi" means carp as well as "love" or "affection"; hence koi fish are symbolic of friendship and love in Japan. Size: 1.5" W x 4" H (3.8 cm x 10.2 cm); total weight: 11.7 grams. Silver quality: 94.84%.

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s to 1990s

Wearable as shown. Slight bending to some panels and top bar, with minor abrasions to some fish, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout. Fish still articulate fully.
