Hancock and Adams 1792 Election Results
HANCOCK, JOHN and ADAMS, SAMUEL. Manuscript Document, 1p., Massachusetts, 7.75" x 12", April 2, 1792. signed by the Town Clerk and three Selectmen of Bridgewater. Bifold sheet with integral address leaf, toning, minor loss/separation at folds, else Very Good.
Manuscript being a Massachusetts state election, for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Senators, "The Inhabitants of the Town of Bridgewater duly qualified to Vote for Governours and Senators: mett on Monday the Second day of April 1792 and Voted in the following manner viz".
Bridgewater turned in nearly the same number of votes for John Hancock (53) and Samuel Phillips (54) for Governor, and Samuel Adams (32) and David Cobb (37) for Lieutenant Governor. Benjamin Lincoln received 8 votes for Governor, Thomas Russell 4, and David Cobb 3.
Also included is a Printed Broadside, 1 p., Boston, March 22, 1792, 4.75" x 7", being a "Notification / By Order of the Selectmen / The male Inhabitants of the Town of Boston, of twenty one Years of Age and upwards, having a Freehold Estate within the Commonwealth, of an annual Income of Three Pounds, or any Estate to the Value of Sixty Pounds in Silver Money ... are hereby notified to meet ... for the purpose of electing a Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and six Senators". Toning, vertical folds, show-through from writing on verso, else Very Good.
