". . . as to myself I know not where my lot will be cast -- that remains a secret in the womb of Providence. I hope I shall be directed & disposed to go where Duty calls me. I think that whenever my performances are in any measure approbated it excites in me a devout wish to deserve approbation. Whenever it shall have a different effect I wish never to have my performances applauded . . ."
