1300s ILLUMINATED MEDIEVAL NOTED BREVIARY ON PARCHMENT (Lamb Skin) VELLUM LATIN, FRAMED
An interesting early 14th Century handwritten noted Breviary on vellum, of large proportions, originating from England or possibly Northern France, circa 1325.
The vellum is inscribed both front and back, Latin text in red and black with black neumes on black staves. Some of the letterings has been picked out in blue or red pigment, the S with additional illumination in green and ochre.
Professionally mounted and framed in a sympathetic wood and gold frame.
Condition
The manuscript leaf has ten pinprick holes running down the left side originating from the original binding. A short tear to the left side edge, stitched together has had the stitches removed prior to mounting in the frame. Framed: 53.2 cm x 40.5 cm or 20 7/8 inches x 16 inches Aperture: 34.8 cm x 24.7 cm or 13 1/4 inches x 9 3/4 inches
