A compendium of devotional texts in two parts for Sundays and religious feasts, illustrated with 86 copperplate engravings by Johann Christoph Weigel the Elder (1654-1725), also known as Christoph Weigel.
Each of the 86 illustrations includes a Biblical citation, a Latin caption and its translation into German.
Over 1000 pages of texts and illustrations.
This book was published in 1730 five years after Weigel's death by his widow, Magdelena Esther Weigel (1679-1748).
Condition: in rather good condition, vellum cover and spine intact, no foxing nor scribble, a few engravings are loose but present.
Provenance: Boston, Massachusetts estate.

Weigel's Biblia Ectypa (Pictorial Bible) is recognized as one of the finest examples of German Baroque biblical illustrations.
Evidently according to the WorldCat lists there is only one copy of this book in the United Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia; the German KVK has two copies (at Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbuttel and in Eutiner Landesbibliothek in Eutin).
