A 1919-D is Gem Full Head is a rarity that most Standing Liberty quarter collectors will never see in person, let alone own. The only dates offered at auction less frequently in this condition are the 1927-S, 1920-S, and 1918/7-S, the last of which does not actually exist this fine in Full Head. We rank the 1919-D as one of the foremost keys in the series in MS65 Full Head and finer. This example displays the usual satin luster and near-brilliant appearance with hints of light champagne toning. Expected weakness occurs on the shield rivets, central gown folds, and the top of the date numerals. Liberty's head has the full profile with high cheek, three feathers and ear, and there are no distracting abrasions. I have given a closeup of the head.
