Lyonel Feininger, (2) woodcuts, 1919/1964, Lyonel Feininger (American, 1871-1956) "The Offing" (Prasse W119), pencil numbered 46/100, 13"h x 15"w, and "Ships (Three Sailing Ships)", (Prasse W151), pencil numbered 58/100, 18"h x 19"w, each on Japan paper, from the posthumous edition of 1964, published by Associated American Artists, New York, each with the blindstamp combining the emblems of Lyonel and Julie Feininger, each loose and unframed
Provenance: Property from the Collection of Dr. Leonard D. Hamilton
Notes/Literature: Leonard D. Hamilton studied at Balliol College, Oxford, and Trinity College, Cambridge, before moving to the US in 1949. He was a brilliant researcher who played an important role in the discovery of the structure of DNA. A keen art collector, Dr. Hamilton owned works by the likes of Whistler, Matisse, Picasso and Candido Portinari.
