A William IV brass mounted and grille inset hardwood bookcase cabinet in the manner of Gillows circa 1830 height 90in (228.5cm); width 76in (193cm); depth 17in (43cm) Provenance: Sold Christies, New York, 18 October 2001, lot 252. Property from a curated Montecito Residence.
Condition
Well made. Structurally sound. Good figuring to timber. General marks nicks, scratches, some cracking and wear commensurate with age and use. With lifting and cracking to veneer under cornice. Possibly reveneered. Fabric to door fronts replaced. Scattered losses to moldings. Interior of center shelves of upper section grain painted. Formerly with enclosed panel or doors. Flanking doors locks currently have no means of locking due to the absence of that panel. Flanking doors enclosing three shelves. Lower doors enclosing one shelf. Left lower door with timber lacking around lock. One foot off and retained. Two keys.
