North America, United States, ca. early 20th century. A cast bronze statue of Theodore Roosevelt - who in addition to becoming the 26th President of the United States in 1901, was also an avid naturalist known for his pioneering work as a conservationist. This statue presents him as an outdoorsman, standing upon rugged terrain, and wearing a cowboy hat and appropriate as well as his signature spectacles. In addition, he is holding a camera on a strap crossed over his chest and, most notably, carrying a big stick - apropos given his self-described approach to foreign policy "speak softly and carry a big stick"! Size: 12.625" H (32.1 cm); 14.625" H (37.1 cm) on included custom stand.

According to the National Park Service, "Conservation increasingly became one of Roosevelt's main concerns. After becoming president in 1901, Roosevelt used his authority to protect wildlife and public lands by creating the United States Forest Service (USFS) and establishing 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, 4 national game preserves, 5 national parks, and 18 national monuments by enabling the 1906 American Antiquities Act. During his presidency, Theodore Roosevelt protected approximately 230 million acres of public land. Today, the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt is found across the country. There are six national park sites dedicated, in part or whole, to our conservationist president."

Normal age wear. Possible nick to upper end of stick, but otherwise appears to be intact. Bronze has developed a rich dark, almost black patina with some areas of verdigris. Attached to base, but statue can be rotated (so not glued) and could probably be removed from base if desired. No signature or markings that we can see.
