**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A handbuilt bichrome terracotta drummer of the traditional sheepface variety with a dramatically protruding nose, ovoid eyes with white painted depressions, and pointed ears on his elongated visage. Wearing an elaborate headdress and magnificent ear ornaments, the musician beats his large, cylindrical drum with one hand and holds his chin with the other. Skillfully hand-built, modeled, and finished in an attractive bichrome red and cream finish. Size: 8.75" H (22.2 cm)
Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
