Item Details
Description
**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 15th to early 16th century CE. A simple yet elegant bowl, hand-carved from a caramel-hued hard wood. The bowl has a flat base, short walls, a thick rim surrounding a shallow basin, and a pair of integral handles. A small indentation in the center of the basin suggests this vessel was used for grinding or preparing various types of substances for ritual purposes. Covered in a lustrous brown patina, this is a wonderful example from ancient Peru! Size: 8.875" W x 1.8" H (22.5 cm x 4.6 cm).

Provenance: private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection, acquired at Arte Primitivo Gallery, New York, New York, USA
