East Asia, China, later Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A fascinating belt buckle, carved from a warm-colored stone featuring the coiled body of a dragon, carved in high relief, with the head designed to be fitted through a loop to fasten the belt. The rest of the body - including a smaller dragon head on the chest - is depicted as a series of curved, serpentine coils with fins and crests rising from their sides. Size: 2.9" H (7.4 cm); 5.55" H (14.1 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
