Philip Kappel was an American printmaker, illustrator and collector, born in Hartford, Connecticut. He studied at Pratt Institute and, for a time, studied marine art with Philip Little in Salem. He was a noted collector and authority on Chinese porcelain and Japanese art. He sailed around the world six times gathering the themes for his etchings and expanding his collection. His work is in many American museums.
