LE BLOND DE SAINT-HILAIRE LOUIS: (1766-1809) French Cavalry General. Count of Saint Hilaire. Killed at the Essling battle. Napoleon ordered his burial in the Pantheon alongside Marshal Lannes. Rare A.L.S., `St-Hilaire´, one page, 4to, Toulon, 9th May 1798, with the printed heading `Liberté - Egalité´ and beneath his printed name and rank, as General of Brigade, to the War Commissioner Lajague, in French. Also bearing to the heading a small revolutionary vignette. Saint-Hilaire states in part `The impossibility of finding a suitable accommodation in Toulon, pledges me to ask you for a full bed to be delivered..´, further also requesting for bread from the hospital because the one he is eating is making him feel ill because of the wound.
