1783 (Circa 1820) Washington independence Baker-4 Colonial Cent 1c Grades vf++. Chocolate-brown surfaces. Both sides are overall sharply defined with a glossy and predominantly smooth texture. The dies for this popular type were prepared by Thomas Wells Ingram after a design by Edward Savage, the initials of both artists in exergue below the seated figure on the reverse. English in origin, as are many Washington types, the Military Bust coppers circulated on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and have long been popular with collectors in both countries.
