Late 19th century, 429 x 194 cm, Western Central Persia
Intended for home use, this Bakhtiari kelleh is a heavy and firmly depressed rug woven on a wool foundation. The midnight blue field is dominated by five large hexagonal medallions which each enclose a cruciform flower. The ground is decorated with an uncrowded arrangement of botehs, a number of stepped polygons and twigs. – Slight damage to the lower end, repiled corner at the top right. Original sides, pile in very good condition.
