Description
English, Whieldon-Astbury, circa 1760. A pear shaped creamer sprigged with grape leaves and vine; on three lion-head feet; the lid topped with a spread-winged bird, the handle, a type used c.1760s.Potter John Astbury (1688-1743) worked with lead-glazed red earthenware, contributed many improvements to the trade. His name evolved eventually evolved to a type of ware popular in the 1730-40s.

Condition
The cover with old discolored repair to bird's head. Small nicks to the outer edge of cover. The pitcher appears to have no repairs. Tiny glaze flakes to rim and edge spout. A tight discolored hairline crack extends appx. 1/2 in. from edge. One leaf and feet have remnants of original gilding.
