Description
A heavy porcelain with unglazed foot ring. The edge has been pierced with a lattice like cut out. The interior of the dish has been painted in polychrome enamels in mandarin home scenes alternating with panels of flowers, fruit and birds. Gilding has been used to accent and edge. The underside is undecorated.
There is the stamped words “MADE IN CHINA “ in Iron red on the bottom
Provenance: From the Ellis Family collection. Most of the collection was acquired by Dr Robert Hale Ellis of Portland, OR during his regular visits to China and Japan as a physician during the early 20th C.
MEASUREMENTS
9” (22.9 cm) long x 7 5/8” (19.4 cm) wide x 1 ¼” (3.2 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 5 oz (595 g)
CONDITION
There are no chips, cracks, or breaks. There is a glaze frit on the mouth rim edge and on the face of one of the people in one of the scenes. There are no other damages. The glazes look fresh and bright.
An interesting serving dish to add to a collection or use to add age and substance to a room décor.
