Description
Staffordshire or "Shropshire", circa 1750.
The word "Jackfield" comes immediately to mind when describing this three-footed pot, which is, generically, the type of black glazed red earthenware made early- to mid-18th century, hand-painted with honey gilding. The pear shape of this pot is more likely that of a coffee or chocolate pot, and the handle and spout, more likely that of Staffordshire later in the 18th century. Thanks go to Diane Stradling of The Stradlings for her comments on this lot.
Dimensions: H:8 7/8 inches
Provenance: A Distinguished New York Collection of Creamware
