Venice: Santa Maria della Salute from San Giorgio
This particular perspective on Venice is one of his most popular and it was works like this which made him a celebrated artist during his day. Ziem was one of the most commercially successful of Barbizon School painters. His work is often compared to that of that of Joseph M.W. Turner. From mid-century onward, Ziem often displayed his pictures at the Paris Salon. Today his is works are held in the collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Louvre Museum, Paris; the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg and the National Gallery, Washington, D.C..

Examination under a UV light reveals no inpainting. With its original stretcher and the frame appears to be original.
