Probably John Crolius (1733-1812) Manhattan, New York, Dated 1806 Initialed "IC" three times in cobalt blue
This salt-glazed stoneware presentation bottle was probably made by John Crolius, whose family worked in Manhattan at 'Pot Bakers Hill', slightly north of what is now City Hall Park. He and his brother, William, were among the areas first potters. Their father had emigrated from Germany and founded a pottery, which the family ran until the mid-nineteenth century. NOTE: A 1775 presentation jug attributed to Crolius at the Metropolitan Museum is incised with the name "JOHN HAVINS"; It also is incised with the initials "IC" for John Crolius'
