Description
MYSTERY KERO RAILROAD LANTERN – stamped “DURANGO RGS R”. Handlan, St. Louis. 4-1/2” tall clear globe. This is a mystery because Durango, Colo was served by the Denver & Rio Grande *Western” RR and the Rio Grande Southern. For some period of time in the 30's and 40's, they ran a joint terminal operation. This could be a lantern from that joint operation. RGS was abandoned in 1951. D&RGW continued until the 1980's when it was sold into a private, tourist railroad “Durango and Silverton RR” and it still runs in 2020. Latest patent date is July 1928. This lantern has been burned and seems to have the wear of regular railroad service.
