Description

A large, monumental pair of antique Chinese guardian fu lion foo dog palace statues or pagoda roof tile architectural elements, possibly Qing Dynasty or Republic Era. Modeled as a traditional matching pair, one male with a ball and one female with a cub, decorated in a lustrous Sancai glaze in a naturalistic palette of amber, brown, green, and creamy off white. Rich patina throughout. Includes two hand carved footed wooden bases. Good overall condition; minor age related wear to sculptures, one wood base is missing a base foot. Measures 24 1/2 in. x 15 in. x 9 in. (dogs), 4 in. x 12 in. x 8 3/4 in. (bases). Hill Auction Gallery will not ship. Gallery will refer a local shipper for international buyers.
