Description
A superlative pair of artisan produced, hand made monumental lidded ginger jars. Antique, possible Qing Dynasty or Republic Era. Bulbous shaped with exquisite encircling high relief designs of stylized wave forms and large koi carp, which symbolize strength and perseverance in Chinese folklore; and its scales and whiskers resemble those of a dragon, a great symbol of power in China. Lids have similar motif designs, and cast metal finials with floral forms and cast metal rings. Includes two hand carved wooden circular base pedestals. Good condition with some age related dust sediment, bases have wear and loss commensurate with age. Measures 22 in. x 23 in. (jars, each without stand). Hill Auction Gallery will not ship.
