Description
Joan Miro (Spanish, 1893-1983), "Sculpture et Ceramics", 1973, artist signed in pencil with artist's additional pencil notation "H.C." (meaning Hors Commerce, or Not for Sale). Artist's proof on Arches paper, sight size 33 3/4" x 23 3/4", frame size 41 1/2" x 31 1/2". Created by Miro as the art to promote a 1973 exhibition of his sculptures and ceramics at Foundation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France. Note: Artists' proofs are typically chosen by the artist to represent their personal pick from a series and typically are kept in the artist's personal collection or sometimes selected for display-only at an exhibition, or given as a gift to the publisher who prints an edition. Provenance: Purchased by consignor from Galerie Maeght's 1988 Joan Miro exhibition in Sydney, Australia.
