Scarce and original Western Edition of an April 1912 Craftsman Furniture catalog. These original American Arts & Crafts furniture catalogs are becoming quite scarce, but this is the only example of a “Western Edition” of this catalog that I’ve seen. Gustav Stickley is one of the high water marks for this period of furniture making. On the reverse of the title page is a full-page photo of Gustav Stickley, who was a consummate self-promotor. Following are two pages of information on the furniture itself. Stickley says, “Most of my furniture was so carefully designed and well-proportioned in the first place, that even with my advanced experience I cannot improve upon it.” Well, he certainly wasn’t shy about promoting his work. What follows are around 45 pages of photos of actual pieces. The remainder of the 64-page catalog shows other Craftsman endeavors of Stickleys, namely metal work, Craftsman home designs, lamps and wicker furniture examples. Some staining to front cover. Lower front tip worn off. First couple of pages with water stain at top. Remainder of interior fine except for one page with a small bit of soiling at bottom margin. 7.125 x 9.25. 64 pp.
