Description
A mid-20th century Iranian (Persian) silver vase, Isfahan circa 1950, mark of Reza Pahlavi dynasty, of ovoid form upon a moulded foot, the waisted neck with a shaped chased rim of flower heads. The body with two large, scalloped vignettes of deep chased monabbat-kari decoration of spiralling peonies populated with crested cranes, nightingales, and long tailed birds (golo morph), edged with a band of engraved and ring punched rosettes. Also, with two shaped vignettes of engraved ghalam zani decoration of a central peony with mirrored birds among flower heads and trailing foliage. All reserved with deep chased and engraved spiralling arabesques and ring punched rosettes, all held below a scalloped border of rosettes. with standard mark (۸۴), and workshop mark رضا. Height – 30.1 cm / 12 inches Weight – 1092 grams / 35.11 oz A rectangular tray marked for Reza using eight-section devices is in the Kronfol collection, National Museum of Scotland, which was gathered between 1920-47, (no V.2015.63). This mark is also seen with the lion and sabre standard mark used 1969-79.
