Native American, southwestern United States, Navajo tribe, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful set of two wearable necklaces formed with black-lacquered wood heishi beads, spheres of varying sizes made from brass, and fragments of vibrantly colored coral. The first necklace has a central coral fragment with a protruding top nodule, and the larger necklace has a central coral fragment without a protruding nodule. The terminals of each necklace are capped with threaded brass barrel clasp halves that fit together and create gorgeous accessories. Size of largest (center coral w/o protrusion): 15.9" L (40.4 cm); (central coral): 0.9" H (2.3 cm); (necklace w/ central coral w/ protrusion): 15.75" L (40 cm); (central coral): 0.9" H (2.3 cm).
Provenance: private Boulder, Colorado, USA collection, acquired in 2020; ex-old private Gallup, New Mexico, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s

Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Minor abrasions and nicks to some wood and coral beads, otherwise intact and very good. Great coloration throughout.
