Description
1876 1ed Life of General George Custer Cavalry Little Bighorn Lakota Indians
“There are not enough Indians in the world to defeat the Seventh Cavalry”
– General George Custer
A rare first edition and popular account of the life of General George A Custer, the military hero of the Battle of Little Bighorn. After hearing of Custer’s death at Little Bighorn, Frederick Whittaker contacted Custer’s widow discussing his idea for a biography. This biography was “based on papers made available by Elizabeth Bacon Custer” (Lamar).
Whittaker does a tremendous job of creating a sense of honor and mystique around the life of Custer, but in doing so, he wrote the first authoritative account of General Custer’s life and career.
