Description
Traditionally of seal hide, these are cow hide, in reverse contrast for husband and wife, all 3 1/2" wide, the light background 55" & (2) 13 1/2"; dark background 44" & (2) 13 1/4". Good condition. From the consignor: "These cuffs are not seal, but are made of cow hide, purchased by the very old lady who made them for us. Her name was Margaret Twombly and she was from Napakiak. The sewing is very fine with tiny stitches brought tightly together in the fashion that was used to make clothing from fur in the past. We bought them to sew on our fur parkas but never did so. We paid Margaret $250 for them." Provenance: From the Collection of William F Bergen, D.O.
