Description
Bentwood frame with seal hide head, signed by the maker, dated 8-94, with a 24" diam. bentwood frame, a handle that goes 12" past frame. Fine condition.From the consignor: "This is a highly prized piece, the only one of its kind I was able to find. It was made in Hooper Bay and I purchased it from Earl Akiachuk. The drum is constructed in the traditional way using seal hide for the drum head. Today the drums used in Eskimo dancing in the area are made from vinyl, it being more readily available than the seal hide." Provenance: From the Collection of William F Bergen, D.O.
