Description
Siemens, Charles William [aka Carl Wilhelm] (1823-1883)
Correspondance entre MM. les Administrateurs de la Societé Anonyme des Aciers Martin et M. C. William Siemens. Paris: Marechal, [circa 1878].Autographed copy signed by Siemens, folio, presumed first and limited edition, with six folding lithographic plates printed in London by Robert J. Cook & Hammond, illustrating Siemens' regenerative preheating furnace; bound in original limp printed wrappers (frayed and chipped along edges), stab sewn, this copy addressed to Abram Stevens Hewitt (1822-1903), New York City mayor and honorary father of its subway system, 10 1/2 x 8 in.The present work concerns a patent dispute between Siemens and a French organization of steel makers that exhibited at the 1878 Paris World's Fair. In a printed brochure circulated by the Societé Anonyme des Aciers Martin, Siemens was not given full credit for his invention, an innovative regenerative furnace used in steel production. Here he substantiates that claim.Rare, Worldcat locates only the MIT copy worldwide.
