History
Kunzite is a very young gemstone, comparatively- it has only been known for a little more than a hundred years. In 1902, George Frederick Kunz, a gemstone specialist and New York jeweler, was the first person to give a comprehensive description of the stone. Kunzite had just been discovered in the Pala District of San Diego County, California. The new and beautiful gemstone was named "kunzite" after its discoverer, Mr. Kunz. Naming a gemstone after the person who discovered it is a common practice in the world of gemstones.

Kunzite is an extremely popular healing stone. Pink Kunzite is sometimes referred to as “the Woman's Stone,” as it is aids young mothers who may be having a hard time caring for their child. Kunzite is loved for it’s clarity and colors. It has very few inclusions and the beautiful, different shades of pinks and light purples it comes in, are truly stunning. The brighter the shade of color, the more valuable the kunzite is. Sometimes, vivid colors are found- rare hues of bright pink to purple. Whether the stone is bright pink or bright purple does not affect its value, it is the brightness of either color that raises its value. Kunzite's hardness is fairly good, rating between a 6.5 to 7 on the Moh's scale.
