Description
Japan, ca. Meiji Period. Three volumes from the famed series "Bijutsu Sekai" (World of Art) published 1890-1894 and designed by Watanabe Seitei (1851-1918). Comprising of issues 5, 13, and the final issue, 25. Also including a treatise on rice cultivation with woodcut engravings.
Ex: Estate of Diran Dohanian, distinguished art historian and Asian art specialist. Most of Professor Dohanian's collection was formed in the 1960s-70s, beginning when he was residing in India conducting research for his book, "The Mahayana Buddhist Sculpture Of Ceylon." He later developed a keen interest in Japanese and Chinese scroll paintings, a number of which are included here.
