Provenance/Additional Info: Rare Early Cast Iron Sink Box Decoy From Long Island, NY. Late In The 19th Century, Sink Boxes Were Special Boats That Floated Nearly Level With The Surface Of The Water. The Hunter Would Lie Down Inside The Boat With Decoys All Around Him In The Water And Wait Until He Could Lure Ducks Within Shooting Range. Heavy Cast Iron, Decoy-Shaped Weights Were Placed On The Flat Outside Edges Of The Boat That Would Help Hold The Boat At Water Level. Good Age Related Condition. 14” Long X 6-1/4” Tall
