Description
Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. A forged-iron by-knife known as a seax (also sax or scramasax) with a sturdy rectangular handle and a baluster-shaped pommel. The blade has a thick spine opposite the blade edge that tapers to a narrow point. The seax was a knife feared by all who opposed Viking warriors; however, it was also a utilitarian knife used for skinning animals, cutting vegetables, or carving wood. Size: 7.625" L (19.4 cm)

Slight bending to overall form with age-commensurate nicks and pitting to blade and handle, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout.
