Blaze Starr ALS Re: JFK and the Cuban Missile Crisis

Autograph Letter Twice Signed, “Blaze Starr”, and captioning her self-portrait, “me / Blaze”, n.d., n.p., 1 p., 8.5” x 11”, on lined notebook paper. Along with a brightly colored self-portrait, Ms. Starr has drawn a red rose at top, a red star below her signature, and has sealed the letter with her trademark bright red lipstick kiss. Fine condition. Ex-Walter Benjamin. From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist.

The vivacious burlesque star writes to her friend Ernie about a visit she made to the White House.  In part, “Oh yes, there was a lot of things I didn’t tell in my book or the movie “Blaze”. After Governor Earl K. Long passed away, I renewed my friendship with then President J.F.K. C.B.S. Newsman Paul Niven … He would pick me up at my home in MD … As we entered, the phone rang. It was J.F.K. He said plans had changed, and told Paul to bring me to a certain office in the Capitol. I wore a headscarf, sunglasses, and carried Paul’s briefcase. As we walked by the Oval Office … Robert Kennedy stood in the open door. L.B.J. (vice president), stood in the hall with his arms folded … J.F.K. was right behind us. As Paul left we locked the door. After a short time, (very short) J.F.K. jumped up and said he was very, very sorry, but he had to leave. While he was dressing he said, Boy if Fidel Castro had something like you, he would think more about making Love, and less about making war. Boy, I really felt proud of myself.”
