Description
It could be a fragment of an altarpiece or a door jamb since the decoration is arranged vertically. In the upper part, the bust of the Apostle in profile carrying a cross-shaped staff from which the pergrin gourd hangs, touched with his characteristic wide-brimmed hat on which a scallop is attached. Another shell is attached to her clothing on her shoulder. The venera, shell of the scallop mollusk is the emblem of the Camino de Santiago and of the pilgrims and was traditionally used to drink water in springs and springs.In the lower part we see the episode of the beheading of the apostle on his return to Jerusalem by order of Herod Agrippa, after his evangelizing journey during which he toured Spain. Both scenes are surrounded by naturalistic thistle leaves that curl up to fit the space.Size: 156 x 41 cms.
