A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI STYLE FORTUNY UPHOLSTERED AND PARCEL GILT CARVED WOOD FAUTEUILS, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, each with a chapeau de gendarme crest rail with beaded molding before ribbon entwined rod molding, continuing on stiles issuing padded arms ending in scrolling acanthus hand rests flanking a conforming padded backrest and seat, above block marguerites centering a bowed ribbon entwined rod seat rail and raised on circular tapering fluted legs ending in stylized toupie feet, each includes a small matching cushion and are covered throughout in Fortuny fabrics. Height: 39" Width: 25" Depth: 23"

Upholstery is modern, each armchair has a distressed finish with flaked gilding revealing red sizing and white gesso, traces of green pigment is found throughout on both chairs, old repairs, areas of re-gilding, age cracks and normal marks/scratches. One chair has had the springs removed and replaced with a plywood panel and has an oval brass tag numbered 119 on back.  Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
