ENGLISH SCHOOL, A PORTRAIT PAINTING, "George of Denmark Consort of Queen Anne of England," EARLY 18TH CENTURY, oil on canvas, painted wearing a periwig and lace tied cravat with an ermine lined red velvet cape draped over the shoulders partially revealing his gilt detailed armor. 30" x 20"  Note: Prince George of Denmark and Norway, Duke of Cumberland (Danish 1653-1708), was married to Queen Anne of Great Britain (Reigned 1702-1714) during the early 1680s. During their marriage, Anne had numerous miscarriages, stillbirths, infant deaths, and only one son William surviving to the age of 11. He had a relaxed manner and scarce interest politically, but was known to occasionally use his influence to aide his wife. They had a good marriage, considering all they went through personally and at court, which lasted till he died at 55 in 1708.
