Description
A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE MING STYLE ENAMELED PORCELAIN PLAQUE, EARLY CHINESE REPUBLIC, 1912-1949, likely a fragment from a larger screen, a budding tree hangs by a great aubergine, blue and green enameled rock above a seated Emperor, at his side a court lady gestures laughingly to her mouth, she stands in pink beside a blooming rose bush, an old monk with bell staff and prayer beads converses with them in a garden with a planter on stand containing a flowering bush accompanied by a water cup with ladle. 15" x 10" Note: Attributed as a scene from the life of the immortal Li Tieguai. In the present scene the immortal is disguised as a simple monk, but his mysterious compassion and wisdom work towards ending suffering of the poor and needy. His conversation and patronage of the Emperor signals the viewer to contemplate Taoist philosophy and the attributes of the immortal.
