Description
A GREEK ICON, "Theotokos Hodegetria (Mother of God) holding the Christ Child as Salvator Mundi with Globus," 17TH/18TH CENTURY, oil on wood panel in an Italian 18th century frame, icon: 10" x 8", frame: 19" x 17 1/2". Note: The dark-browed expressive Mother of God wears a traditional red tunic and blue sleeve dress, she gestures to her son seated in her left hand. The Christ child is seated with a halo and above reads his name in Greek. He gestures with one hand in blessing and holds a clear orb in the other.
Condition
Some losses, heavy darkening, overpainting, craquelure, exposure to woodworm, and overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
