Description
A set of rare seals made of sulphur glass by Henry Laing, circa 1850, taken from the original centuries-old Scottish seals. The British Museum and the National Museum of Scotland each have a set. Apprenticed to Wm Tassie at age 14 to 21, Laing moved to Edinburgh in 1829 as a gem engraver and maker of glass seals. Laing is best known as the compiler of two volumes of Ancient Scottish Seals.
