Spanish Match.- [Scott (Thomas)] Vox Populi. or Newes from Spayne according to the Spanish coppie. Which may serve to forwarne both England and the United Provinces how Farre to Trust to Spanish Pretences..., title with woodcut decorations, [Sabin 78376; STC 22100.8], n.p., 1620 bound with The Second Part of Vox Populi. or Gondomar appearing in the likeness of Matchiavell in a Spanish Parliament, engraved title, 2 engraved illustrations, with final blank f., [STC 22103 & 22103], [1624], together 2 works in 1 vol., foxing and some occasional staining or soiling, bookplate to pastedown, contemporary calf, gilt, neatly and sympathetically rebacked, extremities rubbed, small 4to.
⁂ Scarce pair of pamphlets published in opposition to the proposed Spanish marriage of Prince Charles and to Spanish influence generally, consisting of fabricated reports from the Spanish ambassador Gondomar long-thought to be genuine. On his discovery as the author, Scott was forced to flee the country. The first part includes reference to Virginia and the Bermudas. Both parts appeared in a number of different (often mixed) issues; here the engraved title of the second part seems to correspond to 22103.3, combined with the text of 22103.
