**First Time At Auction**
Southeast Africa, northeastern Tanzania, Pare peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An intriguing anthropomorphic power figure from the Pare people of Tanzania that is hand-carved from wood and wrapped with brown-hued cloth. The figure stands atop delineated legs and holds both arms tightly against the slender waist, and the spherical head is supported atop the squat neck. Petite shell discs are inlaid within the eye sockets to imbue the face with a piercing gaze, and the recessed cheeks and eyebrows are framed with a tight-fitting hood. Size: 2.5" W x 7.7" H (6.4 cm x 19.6 cm); 8.4" H (21.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Minor fraying to exterior cloth wrap, with light encrustations, fading to brown pigment in scattered areas, and minor inactive insect damage, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of pigment and cloth wrappings throughout.
