Description
One of the more esoteric items in Art & Object auction is this cat scratching post made of turned old growth redwood, woven plant fiber and lead weighted bottom, created by Bay Area Craftsman Bob Stocksdale between 1959-1960 for Ann Anderson, Bob had made a number of custom pieces for Anderson and this is one of two cat posts he made for her. Anderson was the owner of the Dondo House (1936) by Bay Area architect William W. Wurster (1895-1973) which she lived in from the late 1950s to 2000 in Point Richmond. These and the other Stocksdale pieces were purchased by the new owner in 2000 by a longtime dealer / collector. Ann Anderson was a passionate collector of art and design and developed friendships with many of the creatives who made pieces for her. The Dondo House was originally made for Professor of French Language and Literature at Cal Berkeley, Mathurin Dondo (1884-1968), Wurster during the 1930s had a number of academic clients he was designing for, 37" x 11".
