Dwight Case Sturges was active/lived in Massachusetts. Dwight Sturges is known for etching, cartoons, illustration, and painting.
Dwight Sturges was born and died in Boston. He studied art there at the Cowles School of Art. Early on, he concentrated on oil painting but around 1910, switched to etching. He became one of America's premier etchers with his fine work compared to Anders Zorn.
His figural scenes, exquisite portraits and landscapes were highly praised. He created many beautiful etchings and works on paper for 25 years with the Christian Science Monitor and was described by them as "genius". He is featured in the book Dwight Sturges-Etcher of an Era published in 1974 by Bond & Wheelwright. His pieces won many awards such as from Chicago Society of Etchers 1915 and 1926; Silver Medal at the Pan Pacific Exposition in San Francisco.
