Description
A ZITAN Tree Carved Ornament, bi.
West Han Dynasty.This large disc is plainly carved to show the elaborate network of deep beige tones of the natural stone. It was inscribed with poetry by Emperor QianLong. And has a 'QianLongRenChenYuTi' seal mark on it, together with 'GuXiang' & 'TaiPu' two seal marks. A very rare ZITAN stand & base was carved to hold and display this magnificent disc 'bi'. It was shaped with dragon & sea pattern and decorated with 'BaGua' characters. Is was also inscribed with a poetry on the back side with 'YuTiBingShi' mark, together with 'BiDe' & 'LangRun' seal marks.There is a handwriting letter by Mr. Kenji Kudeken (The President of Import &Export Trade Nagakura Shoji Co., Ltd) in the wooden case. According to this letter, this disc 'bi' was the given by Mr. Fujita as a wedding gift in 1933. Mr. Gold had visited Mr. Kenji Kudeken many times to express his love for this Jade 'bi', but was no result. Mr.Kenji Kundeken was only decided to sell this masterpiece to Mr. Gold only when he has finished his national service in Japan and on his way back to US. The 'bi' became a symbol of their solidary & forever friendship.
