Description
Two rare Yao shaman's carved woodblock stamps used in traditional rituals by shamans. They would be inked with red/terracota ink to represent blood, for printing a prayer. The message would ascend to heaven when the prayer paper was burned at the altar. Northern Thailand/Laos/south China, early 20th century. Sizes: 1) 11.25'' x 1.25'' x 1.25'' (29 x 3 x 3 cm); 2) 11.75'' x 1.5'' x 1'' (30 x 4 x 3 cm). Provenance: Lee and Vichai Chinalai collection.
