Takesada Matsutani (Japanese, b. 1937). A White Spot, 2001. Mixed media on canvas affixed to board. Signed, titled and dated ‘A White Spot Paris, 2001 Matsutani’ on the reverse. Measures 13 in. high x 9.5 in. wide. Unframed.
Condition: In very good condition. Light surface soiling and scattered minor abrasions.
Painter, printmaker and installation artist, Takesada Matsutani is best known for his techniques utilizing blown air into vinyl glue to produce bulbous forms in the surfaces of his works. He was a member of the second generation group of avant-garde Gutai artists, the influential post war Japanese art collective. His works can be found in many notable collections including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
